Oh, so they ended early? When did it close for you, Ttallan?
The TalkShoe entry still says there are 13 listeners.
Maybe that's what happened!

Because I could still hear them I thought it was a problem on my end with the chat, so I tried to reconnect and it didn't work anymore. I'll have to listen to the podcast once it gets on the site in order to see how it ended. |

No, they went the full hour, but they seemed to say they would continue talking after they stopped recording. I guess I'm just confused about how TalkShoe works. It must be from listening to the Webcomic Beacon podcast, I always got the impression that if you listened live you got to hear the post-show conversation. _________________

Maybe because talkshoe was glitching up, it kicked everyone when it stopped recording?
Alternate idea: I noticed that the chat stopped working about quarter-to the hour, probably exactly one hour after the show went live. (Talkshoe let people on 15 minutes early, even though the show started recording at the turn of the hour). |

The story was that it would go a full 2 hours, i thought.(to 8:00 PM Pacific, 9:00 PM Mountain)
[edit]Interesting observation. The talkshoe page says it's still live, but I wonder if that might have something to do with it.[/edit]
(other stuff removed, because it doesn't belong here.) |

I sat in and listened to the rest of the recording after the chat froze. I was able to hear it, and it got back on track and ended pretty well actually with a discussion about writing. Good show overall, pity about the chat client breaking. |

Let's hope the next call-in goes a bit smoother. _________________ Professor Saltine's Astrodynamic Dirigible.

Maybe next time there can be an IRC server on standby in case it goes kaput again, and throwing the webcast out on a multicast server so we can hear the after-show. |

It could have been worse. On the plus side, I recorded everything in high-quality at my end. _________________

the Talkshoe page claims the episode is either 4 minutes, 40.48 seconds long, or 4 HOURS, 40 minutes long.
How possible is it that Talkshoe bugged out on you all and recorded two and a half hours of silence?(I'm listening to their recording now... Yes, it's midnight. No, I did not think this decision out very well.)
[edit]now that I listened this far, I have a newfound respect for you four, for sitting out my brother's weirdness so cleanly.
I need to get the last few lines from Jim and Ben copied into text.[edit] |

It was certainly an entertaining show. I was in Talkshoe listening along (as "LanceBurns") - my entire contribution was "yep, sounds good" in pre-show chat - it was Monday morning for me, so I was working at the time.
Quick question for next time: Is there a way to bypass Talkshoe and use Skype natively for calling in (or even just listening in slightly higher quality)? None of the other options were particularly appealing. I probably still would have jumped in if there were an easier way (i.e. native Skype).

I have a feeling that the "120 minutes" (stated as the running length on Talkshoe) was just to allow buffer before/after. |

Yes, you can be conferenced in via Skype without Talkshoe. I wasn't logged into Talkshoe at all, but was just talking through Skype. Ben makes his own recording independently.
The lag on Talkshoe seemed pretty bad even while it was working -- which is a bit of a problem in an unmoderated program like ours; there was a lot of lag-induced stepping on each other's words. _________________ Jim Francis

In order to dial in using SKype, you need to either have SkypeOut credit or a paid SkypeOut account. There doesn't seem to be any other way of connecting via Skype. The four of us (later six, counting Aaron and Euan) were all conferenced in through me. _________________

For whatever reason, everyone who was just Skyping in was recorded loud and clear, even after Talkshoe crashed out. It would be nice if they didn't do that next time, but at least we know for sure that everyone will still be able to listen in later.
Still, makes for a rather poor call-in show when nobody can call in. |
