I saw this post on Websnark about a discussion on the discussion on the Truth and Beauty Bombs forums where they're showing how Garfield can sometimes be improved by removing all of Garfield's thoughts from the strips. Some of them turn out a bit strange, but others work very well. They've tried it out on a couple other comics too, with varying results.
I decided to try it myself with Station V3... Here are the last two strips with Prentis, with all of his dialogue removed. (Click them to see the original strips, if you've forgotten what he said!)
What do you think?

It works best with the second strip.
I find it easy to understand the message in the second strip.
The first strip is harder to understand the supposed meaning.

I was thinking maybe it worked the other way, since it's not entirely clear who the "they" are in the second without Prentis saying, but I see what you mean about the first being hard to understand without the words... Prentis could be hiding in there to jump out and get them as soon as they walk past.
(That's his story, and he's sticking to it!) _________________

Yes and his antenna make him easier to read.
And I think his eyes are locking wondering in the first panel.
