I just recently found out about this particular upcoming event. If anyone out there hasn't heard about it, please begin preparations, as minor as those preparations might be.

I'm not saying that sci-fi wecomics are directly attributed to Douglas Adams. But they are, in a way. The fusion of Sci Fi and Comedy broke into the mainstream with Hitchhiker.

I'm not saying that Douglas Adams inspired all of us. Sure, we can all pull references from his works. We can slap the number 42 on things and consider it a *wink wink nod nod* towards those who are familiar with his work.

I'm not saying that Douglas Adams was in inspiration to wildlife conservation efforts throughout the world. His eyes were opened late in his far too short life to ecology and evolution and wildlife preservation. I remember last year when the Baji river dolphin, one of the endangered species featured in his book Last Chance to See was officaly declared extinct. I remember few people caring. The Chinese government never gave preservation a higher priority than industrial development. And now they've gone and out polluted the United States. Freaky. But I digress.

I'm not saying that Douglas Adams was a martyr for atheists and free thinkers everywhere. No one else could phrase theological absurdities so humorously.

I'm not saying that Douglas Adams was taken from this world far too early. That goes without saying.

I'm not saying that I never got a chance to show my appreaciation and respect for him. I'm just glad that I found out about this oppurtunity in time to throw a towel on my shoulder and feel glad to share the experience.

I'm not saying that anyone else feels this way. But I know I am not the only one who was a fan and who considered Douglas Adams to be more than someone who wrote a few books.

So in his memory, throw a towel on your shoulder before you go out tomorrow.

I am pleased to report I spotted towels on the shoulders of at least two hoopy froods at Anime North this weekend. Huzzah.

Darn...missed it AGAIN!

However, I did wash loads of towels on Sunday, so in a small way my subconscious must have been aware of it.

Besides - I consistently make a drink that tastes almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea when I am instructed to use the kettle, so in a way every day is my Douglas Adams Appreciation day.
