Shouldn't Mr. Substitute's name have changed? I mean he isn't substituting for Mr. Maintenance Engineer anymore, as he is back. His name should probably also be Mr. Maintenance Engineer to, although as the current Mr. Maintenance Engineer is the original Maintenance Staff member his name should probably be Mr. Senior Maintenance Engineer.

They get named for their intended function, but the name doesn't change with their job - Mr. Maintenance Engineer was still Mr. Maintenance Engineer even when he had a different job with the Death Fleet Task Force. And even with Mr. Maintenance Engineer back, Mr. Substitute is still a substitute for someone who can really translate what Violet says!

So Mr. Lazy Good for Nothing Bum's intended function was a Lazy Good for Nothing Bum?

So if Mr. Lazy good for nothing bum, was indeed a Lazy Good for Nothing Bum, he would be achieving his intended function and hence good for something hence not achieving his intended function, and so we have a paradox setting off at the very least a small unreality wave.

If that was enough to set off an unreality wave we would have a lot of those on Earth. I don't know about you, but I havn't noticed any.

I think it is key to understand that cultures usually don't operate in absolutes. "Nothing", even when spoken by a human, usually doesn't actually mean nothing. Words are most often used in an approximative sense.

I realize it isn't absolutes, its just that your intended function isn't something that would get classified as nothing by me anyway.

Also I think that my definition of small might be smaller then yours, seeing as I am currently studying Quantum Mechanics, which these small unreality waves would definitely help make more sense.
I hope it is clear I am making a joke this time...
